Kildare’s Judy Reynolds completed a memorable week for Irish Dressage on the world stage, with an 18th place finish in the Olympic Grand Prix Freestyle to Music Final in Rio this afternoon with the gelding Vancouver K.

Reynolds and Vancouver K (pictured above) set a new Irish Grand Prix Special score of 74.090% last Friday to book a place in the individual final. They became the first Irish combination in 24 years to qualify for the Olympic final, following in the footsteps of Anna Merveldt and Rapallo, who achieved the same feat at Barcelona in 1992.

Thirty-five year-old Reynolds scored 75.696% in their final Olympic Dressage test where the world’s top horses and riders battled for individual medals.

Britain’s Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro retained the Olympic title they won on home soil in London four years ago. An incredible score of 93.857% saw them take the Gold Medal.

Germany’s Isabel Werth ring Weihegold Old took the Silver Medal with a score of 89.071% while another German rider, Kristina Broring-Sprehe and Desperados FRH, captured the Bronze scoring 87.142%.
